2016 Brings New Opportunities for Homebuyers

By Amy Patterson

Screen_Shot_2015-12-23_at_9.15.18_PM.pngThe new year may bring new opportunities for those looking to become homeowners. According to Fannie Mae, lending standards in 2016 are expected to ease across the board. If this happens, not only would it allow more home buyers to qualify for home loans, but it would help ease home prices throughout the U.S.

According to a recent Fannie Mae survey of U.S. lenders, the number of lenders expected to tighten standards on government backed loans fell by 2%, while the number expected to loosen standards rose by 16%.

“These current practices and expectations toward easing among lenders compares to a historically relatively tight mortgage credit standard base," said senior vice president and chief economist of Fannie Mae, Doug Duncan.
