Save money, have a cleaner home and lessen chemical exposure – these are all of the reasons to ditch your store bought cleaners and check out these incredible DIY all-natural cleaners that really work. While the initial investment to make these products might be higher than what you’re used to spending on traditional chemical cleaners, (the blog author estimates about $30) they will last you far longer than traditional cleaners – and give you more bang for your buck with a cleaner home.
Here’s what you’ll need (to make all four cleaners):
Castile soap – an all-natural liquid soap (this has recently grown in popularity and is now available in most stores)
Lavender oil – a natural oil with anti-bacterial benefits that smells delicious (this can be found at your local holistic store or online)
Tea tree oil – a natural oil that cleans, disinfects and smells like strong mint (this can be found at your local holistic store or online)
Super washing soda – aka sodium carbonate (Arm ‘n Hammer makes this and it can be found everywhere)
White vinegar – available everywhere
3 large spray bottles for storing the cleaners
1 large bottle with a top that will allow you to squeeze out the cleaner
Note: Beware the natural reaction (expansion) that occurs when mixing baking soda and vinegar!
Here’s what to do (for the all-purpose cleaner):
Mix:
3 tablespoons vinegar
1/2 teaspoon washing soda
1/2 teaspoon castile soap
2 cups hot water
Here’s what to do (for the anti-bacterial spray):
Mix:
1 cup water
20 drops lavender oil
(Yes, that’s really it!)
Here’s what to do (for the de-greaser):
Mix:
2 cups water
1/4 cup castile soap
10 drops lavender oil
Here’s what to do (for the bath, sink and tile):
Mix:
Note: This formula is thicker and should be put in a squeeze bottle rather than a spray bottle.
2/3 cup baking soda
1/2 cup castile soap
2 tablespoons vinegar
1/2 cup water
A few drops of tea tree oil
