Beautiful Wedding or Beautiful Home? Why not both?

Okay. Get ready. This statistic almost made me choke on my coffee… and I was a wedding planner (that seems like a lifetime ago).

Per The Knot, the national average spend on a wedding is $35,329.00.

Did you hear that?! Thirty-Five Thousand Dollars. These are young people just starting their lives together.  So, often, that means for these young couples that they must choose between a wedding and a house. But not Scott & Amy Wickberg in Denver, Colorado.

You see, of that $35,000 the venue cost is $16,107 (also per the same survey), so they decided to find a home that could also host their wedding! These smarties!

Think about it, $16,000 on a venue that you can use for one day or $16,000 on a down payment for a house which you will be in for… well… longer than a day! The trend for the younger generation is putting less of a down payment when purchasing a home but that is only out of necessity. The more you can put towards a home up front, the better you will position yourself regarding both your mortgage and financial future.

Worried about being disappointed on your big day? These two weren’t; here’s an excerpt from the article:

“Not only was buying the home a good investment, it also meant that the Wickberg wedding gave their guests a taste of their everyday life. On the day of the wedding, Amy and her bridesmaids got ready right next door thanks to a friendly neighbor. And when the festivities wound down at 10 p.m. in consideration of the families living nearby, the happy couple and their guests walked to a brewery just a few blocks away to continue their celebration.”

"Even if we had all the money in the world, we wouldn't have done our wedding any other way," says Amy. "We loved having our wedding at home. It felt like us."

I’ve included a link to the article below if you would like to see their beautiful photos from their big day/house warming!
