Bugs & How to Deal with Them

By Morgan Saylor

Bugs in or around your home at some point in time are pretty much an inevitability. Whether it’s ants, mosquitos, or other type of scuttling, flying, or squirming insect, Houselogic has determined how best to go head-to-head with each type of bug.

Ants – Ants are attracted to anything sweet, like cookie crumbs or sugary spills – when you find an ant line into or around your house, follow it. Seal entrances they may have inside.

Roaches – Potentially one of the most despised insects in the realm of household pests, roaches are a force to be reckoned with. If you spot a single roach, Houselogic suggests scrubbing your place top to bottom and laying out a commercial-grade roach trap ASAP. If you spot more than one, contact an exterminator.

Wasps – When it comes to wasps, preventing queens from starting a new nest is favorable, according to Houselogic – but if a nest has formed, try investing in some aerosol insecticide and proceeding cautiously (i.e. wearing full-coverage clothing and spraying from 20-plus feet away). Due to the sensitive nature of wasps (and likelihood of being stung), consider hiring an exterminator for this job too.

Houselogic also warns against plugging up the hole to their nests, because wasps chew through almost anything. When their exit is plugged up, they will make a new one, and if their nest is attached to the siding of your home, they can chew through your wall, into your home!
