DIY: Outdoor String Lighting

By Morgan Saylor

Maybe slightly warmer weather has got you day dreaming about summer picnics and parties to come. You might also be thinking of ways to spruce up your outdoor space for entertaining or just relaxing with your family. If this sounds like you, the Home Depot has created an outdoor cement-based string light set up that could compliment any outdoor living space!

These lights create a fun, relaxing vibe that can come together in a weekend.

In this do-it-yourself scenario, HD’s Jessica Gregg used Aspen tree trunks, although the type of tree trunk is left to your preference. For less of a rustic vibe, metal poles would work as well.

This project requires only a handful of materials:

  • 50 lbs of Fast-Setting Cement
  • Herbs & vegetable plants
  • Wood planter
  • Outdoor clear hanging garden string lights
  • 5 gallon buckets (quantity of 2)
  • WD-40
  • Hooks
  • Tree trunks (wood, or metal poles if preferred)

For step-by-step instructions, check out the details at Home Depot’s blog.
