Educating First Time Homebuyers

Educating First Time Homebuyers

First time home buyers are educated. Educated by HGTV specials, Facebook posts, articles on Reddit, conversations with friends and family members… if it wasn’t hard enough to overcome their preconceived ideas regarding homebuying; now, the hired real estate professionals will need to educate them with the correct information. But what information do you share with them? Getting to know what your first-time home buyer is looking for in a home can be an ominous task, especially considering that often they aren’t even sure what it is that they want. And maybe they do know but aren’t sure how to communicate it, after all, they aren’t in the real estate industry to know the jargon and what all is available to them.

Educating First Time homebuyers blog.jpgThere are some main factors that all real estate professionals need to pin down with their clients:

  1. What is their buying power?
  2. What do they want in a home?
  3. When do they need this home?

The last one is easy enough to get a solid time frame out of the buyer but the other two can prove to be a bit trickier with our first timers. Finding out what kind of financing a first-time homebuyer qualifies for will help determine the price range, Stockton Mortgage has a history of helping people, particularly first time homebuyers navigate this process! They are a great resource to lean on in educating your clients. Ask about the First-Time Homebuyers guide!

But financing is only part of the process. As mentioned before figuring out what it is that these clients of yours want is more difficult than it may sound. That is why we were excited to stumble upon a site called, Doorsteps. It was recently featured on realtor.com. This site allows homebuyers to swipe through pictures of homes in their area and they can pass on homes they don’t like and save the ones they do. What the system does, is it learns the homebuyers’ preferences and provides them with search criteria that matches those preferences. How cool?! This will save the realtor and the buyer a lot of time and headache!

Check out information on doorsteps using the link below and contact Stockton Mortgage to receive complimentary copies of our homebuyers guides to help your first timers because as the founder of door steps says, “At the end of the day, smarter buyers are better buyers.”
