As much as we are proponents for DIY-ing it, there is a time and a place. It’s good to be confident in your own abilities, especially as it pertains to upgrading or maintaining your home, but know your limitations.
Houselogic.com’s Jamie Wiebe, a DIY guru who has done it all, has flushed out four tips for avoiding major DIY disasters.
- Think ahead – measure several times and think of every potential scenario that might come about before committing to a redesign.
- Don’t go cheap – cheaper isn’t always better, especially if you’re looking at appliances. Really do your research before making a purchase and don’t think because it’s cheaper that it’s a better value.
- Seek specialists – Really important projects that require specialist knowledge is better left to the professionals (example: electrical and plumbing).
- DIY with back-up – Whatever your DIY project, make sure you can get back-up as needed, so avoid doing major DIY projects during holidays.
