Happy Patio

Happy Patio

101999024.jpgNovember. December. January. February. March. April. I don’t know where you live but during these months, my patio and deck are not getting any love. They only serve as a spot for leaves to collect, ice to form and muddy paw prints to gather. But once that icky weather moves out, it is time for some outdoor living! I hate to say it but I don’t even use my outdoor area until late summer, early fall because it takes that long to get motivated to make it a space in which I want to be again. Together, let’s check out at ways to give our outdoor living areas a bit of life, making them useful again!

Outdoor furniture should be inviting and make you want to move out of the air conditioning; try dressing up some neutral furniture with some colorful outdoor pillows! This may go without saying but you will want it to actually be comfortable. After all, we aren’t staging our deck for a photo shoot we are going to be spending time out there!

Have you considered adding an elevated deck off your existing patio? This will add dimension to your otherwise flat yard and create what appears to be two different “rooms” to your yard. Also by doing this you can add flexibility to your entertaining.

I may not have a pool but I do enjoy sitting out in the sun during the summer months. I resisted my urge to do so on my patio, however, because it felt so exposed! You see, my husband and I aren’t big fence people but there are other options! Opting to add a row of evergreens can form a privacy wall which is great, not just for sun bathing, but also for entertaining!

It would be remiss not to talk about the star of the warmer months—beautiful gardens! If you are like me and not great at keeping up with landscaping,  try a container garden, a much more manageable option. These can enhance the beauty of your existing patio, deck and any furniture you have by bringing in a little life! In fact, you can make it into a portable garden by putting the pot on a rolling stand.

The bottom line is, if your grill is the current focal point of your deck that is littered with un-cushioned patio furniture! Join me in making it over and having a happy outdoor space once again!
