How to Fill Nail Holes (Easily)

how to fill nail holes blog.jpg“Are you sure this is where you want the pictures? Once I hang them, they are going to stay there. I don’t want to have to fill in nail holes all the time.” This is what my husband said to me upon my first attempt at a gallery wall. Well I made it 4 years but now I’m ready for a new look—a more playful, lighter look. I took to hanging them myself this go around (I’ve become handier in the last few years) but now I have ugly nail holes and his words ring in my head every time I start to ask him to fill them. Well, hallelujah for the Gracious Wife and her amazing tip to easily fill nail holes for a fraction of the cost. The best part? I don’t even have to buy anything! The tools needed are a crayon and lighter. That is it!

Here is how it works; grab a crayon that matches your paint color (another reason to perpetuate my love of white paint) and firmly rub over the nail hole, like you are coloring. The nail hole will fill with the wax. If your nail hole is a bit larger, you may need to melt the crayon a little using a lighter. Just heat it to the point of it becoming a little soft—you don’t need wax dripping all over your hand! Once you have filled in the hole, just use a rag and wipe away the excess crayon build up.

Isn’t that a spectacular tip?! I’ve included a link below that shows photos of the step by step process! Here is my added tip; don’t let your kiddos catch you with a crayon to the wall. They may take that as license to draw a self-portrait in your hallway. If you find yourself needing to renovate but don’t want to eat up your savings, give us a call!
