It isn’t to say that when you start the process of buying a home, that it is going to be stressful – but sometimes the process alone (fetching financial documents, writing the occasional letter of explanation) can be wearisome. Buying a home is one of the most important financial decisions one can make – cue the stress.

Reducing anxiety as you go through the mortgage process is key. Mortgage Bankers Association David Stevens has gleaned some tips to overcoming it:

Your Budget

Knowing your budget is key – that includes budgeting, not just for your mortgage, but also homeowner’s insurance, taxes, maintenance, utilities, and so on.

Make a Plan

The best plan is to take into consideration all that could go wrong: i.e., expect the unexpected. Owning differs from renting in many wonderful ways, but one unfortunate side effect of owning is when something breaks, it’s your responsibility to fix it. If you plan to own a home, set aside some funds for such incidents.
