Hurried Homebuying

By Morgan Saylor

Buying a home can be a whole lot of hurry-up and wait. Gather up your loan documents, submit them, wait to find out if you’re pre-qualified, wait to find out if your offer on the home you want is accepted… While SMC’s mortgage bankers work diligently to make the mortgage process smooth and expedient for you, you may feel like you’re at the mercy of others throughout the rest of the homebuying process – sellers, realtors, you name it. Here are a few tips from realtor.com on how to expedite the process when you’re in a hurry!

Limit the looking

If you have plenty of time, take your time and look at every style of home in all varieties of neighborhoods. But because you’re in a hurry – don’t. Only look at the few houses you think you’re truly interested in buying.

Go in strong

When you find the right home, make a solid offer.  Ask your Realtor for advice. Realtor.com says this doesn’t “just mean offering a lot of money. You can also offer a larger down payment and more earnest money”.

Be prepared

Have your paperwork in order. All your pre-qualification documentation, letters of explanation, and anything your SMC mortgage banker says you might need in the way of paperwork or documentation - make sure you have it in duplicate! For starters, here's a loan document checklist.
