There are many things to consider when deciding on the best building materials for your home. Factors like upfront and initial cost, durability and upkeep are usually the biggest decision makers. So today, we’re weighing all of the pros and cons between metal and asphalt to find out which is the better choice for roofing.

Metal

There are many different kinds of metal roofing, each with different benefits.

Pros: lightweight, durable, warranties up to 50 years, extreme weather performance, environmentally friendly

Cons: expensive, expansion and contraction, low-end metals aren’t very high quality

Asphalt

Pros: good performance, easy to repair, easy to install and work with, cheap, well known and used, variety of style options

Cons: doesn’t hold up as well in severe weather (like hail), can be heavy, not very environmentally friendly

Consensus

It depends on what you’re looking for. Do you want longevity or savings?
