If you decide to celebrate the holiday season with a Christmas tree this year – a real Christmas tree – there are some important (and easy) safety precautions that you can take to prevent tree fires.
- Water regularly – Keeping your tree well watered will not only keep your tree healthier, but decrease the odds of your tree become dry and more flammable.
- Place wisely – Even though the most picturesque place for your tree might be next to the fireplace, it’s safer to keep your tree away from heat sources.
- Light conservatively – Overloading your tree with lights can overheat the tree and overload circuits.
- Switch to LED – LED lights burn cooler than traditional bulbs (they also save you money).
