Reasons to Buy in Winter

By Morgan Saylor

While we’re not quite there yet, winter is on its way, and the holiday season is upon us. It’s definitely not the most popular time to buy a new home, but you could be missing out if you don’t.

Trulia has come up with some reasons why:

Good prices – The end of the year translates to many as the busiest shopping time, and with fewer buyers looking for new digs, many homes have bargain prices.

Better scheduling – The end of the year also marks the time everyone works to burn their PTO, so trying to jam ten house showings into one weekend is done a little easier.

Sellers are determined – Because their home is listed in the winter, it’s possible a recent turn of events motivated the move. Whether they’re moving for a job or another personal life happening, you may have more room to negotiate a lower price.

Tax benefits – If your loan closes by December 31, 2016, you are eligible for certain deductions – and who doesn’t stand to gain around tax time?

More vendor availability – Because people seldom move this time of your year, you will have little competition for time slots when it comes to moving companies, contractors, inspectors, and professional painters.
