Selling to Millennials

By Morgan Saylor

Millennials and Baby Boomers are trading spaces, so to speak. Boomers are saying sayonara to their homes in suburbia and welcoming urban living, while millennials are looking to larger, suburban living. If you’re trying to sell to millennials, here are things Zillow says to consider.

They are busy – they work long hours, and their free time is valuable. Taking time to spruce up a home is not on their agenda, so many millennials are in the market for a turnkey home.

Home searching equates to dating – searching for a home is like online dating. Your home has to present well online. Appealing photos of your home’s interior and exterior are a must.

Bigger isn’t better – McMansions are out. Millennials don’t seek endless amounts of square footage, Jacuzzi tubs, excess formal dining and living rooms that aren’t actually used. Millennials look for smaller, easier to maintain spaces that make living easier.

Location! – Even when not in an urban environment, they seek the experience while still living in the suburbs, which means if your home is in close proximity to a downtown or popular neighborhood, you may easily be able to market to a millennial.
