Staging No-No's

By Morgan Saylor
When staging a home to sell, you obviously want to put your best foot forward. While you may not have an issue with the room you’ve dedicated to your life-long passion of porcelain dolls, a potential buyer might.

Craig Donofrio via Realtor.com has compiled a helpful list of things to not show when staging your home to sell.

Stuffed Animals – We’re not talking about your teddy bear (although tucking it out of sight might not be the worst idea), but your taxidermy animal heads. Hunting is a hobby enjoyed by many but you can’t assume your buyers will approve, and the presence of formerly living animals now permanently affixed in your den might creep some people out.

Weird Collections – As mentioned earlier, if you’re a purveyor of porcelain dolls, clown memorabilia, or any number off odd-collectors-items, it’s best to tuck them away. It can be difficult for potential buyers to look past anything they might not be as enthused in as you.

Guns – From a safety standpoint, there is nothing stopping someone from bringing their child to a showing of a home, so it’s good to lock up guns or any other weapons.
