Many are downsizing. As many Americans are aging, they no longer need the large homes with multiple bedrooms and big yards. Their kids have grown and moved out and they are ready to move on. While the result would likely be very freeing—less stuff, less space to clean, less yard to maintain; the process of downsizing could feel like an ominous one. It goes without saying that moving is stressful. Moving from a larger home to a smaller home can be even more stressful. Sure, when you lived in your large home you had the square footage to hang on to every meaningful knick-knack and item of memorabilia, grandma’s antique credenza, and that bread maker that’s been collecting dust in your food pantry (but you swear you’re going to use it! You just found a cool bread recipe on Pinterest…).
