Simple to Stunning: Laundry Room
I can’t explain my love of laundry room makeovers. I’m not sure if it’s because they are so utilitarian that thought of making it an appealing space means that you have really rounded out the look of your home? Maybe it’s because they are usually such small spaces that taking on this project does not mean big bucks (unless you are buying appliances)? Or maybe doing laundry is the worst so if you can work in a pretty space, it won’t be so bad? Heck, it’s probably all three reasons! I’ve been itching to dress up our “laundry room” (I should say closet) for some time now and I think I’ve found a great before and after on which to base it! Let’s look at the entry from Emerson Grey Designs. Of course, when you check out the pictures you can see that they purchased new appliances but all the other items I would think you could get for next to nothing, relatively speaking. I love, love, love the baskets under the counter that they added in! putting dryer sheets and stain remover in a basket is fine but if you can see down in it when you are doing the laundry it still looks a bit sloppy and if you put it up high where you can’t see the items, it’s a bit irritating to have to stand on tippy toes to get in it. But here, they can just slide out and then back in to hide the mess. AND if you decided to pull out the washer and dryer to clean the floor that counter is not in the way! And the decals on the back wall are just so cool!
Simple to Stunning: Porch
Do you want to transform your porch? A lot can be said for adding a rail to the existing slab of concrete. It not only helps the space aesthetically but it also contributes to the safety and definition of your outdoor space. I’m loving the look of the modern look of combining wood and wire so much right now! Over on Killer B Designs they used cedar and cattle panel to create their railing and it looks so good (heart-eyeball emoji good)! You can check out all the details on the link below but basically, they framed cattle panel in using treated 2x4 wood planks and attaching these frames to posts. It looks amazing! It’s rustic, modern, and so much more appealing than wood slats because you can see so much more of the porch.
Simple to Stunning: Bathroom
For today’s edition of Simple to Stunning we have my favorite kind of transformation—the non-construction ones. They are inexpensive, not too time consuming and can still make a huge difference! Abby from Just a Girl and her Blog shares several photos of her before and after transformation of her home! Today we are checking out her guest bathroom. She updated this room with paint and accessories and kept the original vanity, flooring and tub surround. I’ve included the before and after photos of their amazing transformation below but please check out their blog, for more pictures.
Simple to Stunning: Small Bedroom
Small bedrooms can be difficult to design because they have to be functional, possessing enough storage for clothing and such and house one of the biggest pieces of furniture in existence, a bed. That is just what the team at decorist did and Aileen featured it on her blog! They lightened up the bedroom by painting and repositioning the bed and adding in a few whimsical accessories.
Simple to Stunning: Kitchen Islands
If the kitchen is the heart of the home, then the island is the aorta of the kitchen. (I’m assuming the aorta is the main part of the heart.) This is the place to gather for your friends, family and pets, especially if there is food out! Because of their popularity, the kitchen island has become a focus for many DIY-ers as well as interior designers. After all, if this is the place where people gather most why wouldn’t you want it to reflect your style? So, what to do with a boring, basic kitchen island? The folks over at 21 Rosemary Lane added board and batten plus a little paint and… Voila! A fresh new look! To see their step by step process and to get tips for your own island makeover, please check out their blog but I’ve also included a before and after photo below!
Simple to Stunning: Shed Makeover
Do you have a shed that is currently housing some old planters you haven’t used in years along with a family of spiders in the top corner? It seems like a shame to have a building that isn’t being used as much as it could. Don’t agree with me? I bet you will after you see what Lindsay at White Buffalo Styling Company did to her shed. She turned it into a screened in porch. While scrolling through the photos I can see friends and I sitting there drinking our bourbon cocktails (remember we are in Kentucky), free from bugs and as the summer showers move in, we don’t have to retreat inside!
Simple to Stunning: Linen Closet Makeover
I was really torn between finding a true remodel for today’s Simple to Stunning entry and this one. I understand that no one (except maybe me) will stand back and look at a linen closet and declare, “that it is stunning!” But I bet most of you have at least one closet that frustrates you just thinking about it! It’s not even about it being visually appealing, is it? Nope. A dysfunctional linen closet can upset the function of your home; when you are constantly having to juggle items, or worry about them falling out on top of you... Ugg its awful! Well, Jamie, a blogger for Southern Revivals tackled her linen closet nightmare in one day with the help of the Rubbermaid Storage Planner (find the link in her blog… included below) she designed, purchased and installed a system that makes her linen closet both better looking and more functional. See, it is stunning, isn’t it?
Simple to Stunning: Dining Room
The McGees who call themselves the “not so newlyweds” give us a peek into their home to see what updates they made. Their dining room was included in the list of updates. They didn’t do a whole lot to change the room but the updates they did make had a huge impact! First, they installed wainscoting on the walls which helped to add even more dimension in contrast to their original chair rail. They painted the room a nice neutral gray and added floor to ceiling curtains with a bold design to make the space feel bigger. I’ve included the before and after photos of their amazing transformation below but please check out their blog, for more pictures.
Simple to Stunning: Hallways
It is true that no one is hanging out in your hallways, unless of course you are trying to hide presents from the kids (who are peeking under the door) or there is a line for the bathroom. With that being said, there is a lot of wall space to make some statements on, so why not dress up your hallways? That is exactly what one of my favorite bloggers did. She added board and batten, painted the walls, changed out the light fixture and hung some art… voila! She has a new space that feels light, airy and elegant and that is just the transition space before you get to her next beautiful room!
