Simple to Stunning: Hallways

It is true that no one is hanging out in your hallways, unless of course you are trying to hide presents from the kids (who are peeking under the door) or there is a line for the bathroom. With that being said, there is a lot of wall space to make some statements on, so why not dress up your hallways? That is exactly what one of my favorite bloggers did. She added board and batten, painted the walls, changed out the light fixture and hung some art… voila! She has a new space that feels light, airy and elegant and that is just the transition space before you get to her next beautiful room!

Simple to Stunning: Playtime

Little Jack Horner wouldn’t have sat in the corner eating his Christmas pie, if his mom was Lindsay Ballard. As far as cool mom’s I think she takes the cake with this playroom makeover. In fact, her son is quoted as saying, “Come upstairs and look at our room.  My mom is so cool.” She used cobalt blue everywhere from painting the stereo cabinet to striping the walls! This playroom makes such a fun statement and on top of it, has TONS of storage so the Lego and baby doll clutter doesn’t get too out of hand!

Simple to Stunning: Back Patio

The Handmade Home Blog features a beautiful backyard but how it started was not; it was all brown and a little dreary—mostly it was an outdoor space that just wasn’t inviting. The homeowner lived in her home for six years before having the opportunity to turn her backyard into additional outdoor living space. I don’t know about you, but I can certainly feel her pain… our backyard exists mostly for a place for our dog to do his business and for my husband to cook on the grill. After seeing these pictures, I feel super inspired to do something with our outdoor space and maybe you will too!

Simple to Stunning: A Welcoming Front Porch

Are you looking to update the look of your home? Often, we focus on making interior rooms more comfortable when remodeling, after all that is where we spend most our time at home. But curb appeal isn’t just a conversation for when you are going to list your home to sell. Pulling up to your home should be a good feeling and not just because of the people/animals inside. A blogger featured in this post assisted a family in Tennessee in doing just that. They were looking for an updated look to the outside of their home and got just that! The exterior brick was painted, new landscaping was added along with window boxes and shutters. The rod iron columns were replaced with wooden ones. When they were done the house looks so much more fresh and inviting—a home you could certainly feel good about coming home to!

Simple to Stunning: Dated Bathroom

Bathrooms. We all need them and they have much improved since the days of the outhouse but many times the bathroom is one of the last rooms to get renovated. I don’t know if this is because the thought of closing down usage for such a vital room in the house is terrifying or if they are typically so small that it gets overlooked. But either way a fresh and welcoming bathroom isn’t just nice for you to get ready in but your guests will also appreciate your efforts! The before and after we are going to check out today comes from a DIY’er named Roeshel. There is a link at the end of this post which directs you to all the details.

Simple to Stunning: Outdated Fireplace

This week’s simple to stunning is a doozey of a makeover! Go ahead, take a sneak peek at the before and after photos below. These two fire places don’t even look like they would be found in the same part of the country, much less be the same fire place! And guess what? It was only a $200 makeover! They do highlight that fireplace codes are very different in each area so be sure to check what is required before you start to reinvent your fireplace. You can check out their breakdown of how they created this beautiful fireplace by visiting their blog.

Simple to Stunning: Upgrade Interior Doors

Simple to Stunning: Upgrade interior doors

In all my digging around the internet I stumbled upon what might be my favorite DIY upgrade yet! Although last week’s laundry nook did put up a good fight. If you want, check that one out here.

The reason why these interior doors are the ultimate winner is because those flat, hollow core doors automatically make me think cheap college housing (not that I blame landlords, they probably get tired of replacing doors with holes punched or kicked in them… I’d go cheap too). But if your current abode has these doors, there is an easy way to upgrade them so you don’t have to take on the expense of replacing all your interior doors. I’ve included before and after pictures below but for DIY instructions, you’ll need to check out this website

Simple to Stunning: 50-Year-Old Kitchen Makeover

Simple to Stunning: 50-Year-Old Kitchen Makeover

Hellooo beautiful home! We are back in my favorite couple’s home this week! This time, we are looking at their kitchen. Kitchens can be an ominous makeover; they are expensive and when under renovation, you are limited on your meal options, being that you don’t have a kitchen to cook out of. But if you moved into this house and faced these 50-year-old knotty pine cabinets, linoleum flooring and old appliances, I think you, like this couple, would say, “It’s got to go!”. Unlike the previous Simple to Stunning examples I’ve shared, this one is a total overhaul BUT what a transformation it is! It is now a bright space filled with light. They opted for white cabinets, added in hard wood flooring and more efficient, new appliances!

Simple to Stunning: Multi-Functional Guestroom

We are featuring another room transformation from one of my favorites! I can’t get enough of this couple and their ability to create a beautiful space out of something that looks so dated and common—without a total renovation overhaul! Just like I’ve said before, I think a big part of it for me is that their first house reminds me of so many that are on the market right now and I just sit back and think, “I wonder if I could pull off a flip of these homes.” Well, they did it!

Simple to Stunning: Master Makeover

I can’t get enough of this couple and their ability to create a beautiful space out of something that looks so dated and common—without a total renovation overhaul! I think a big part of it for me is that their first house reminds me of so many that are on the market right now and I just sit back and think, “I wonder if I could pull off a flip of these homes.” Well, they did it! Their master bedroom started off as a boring square room with a tacky border and tiny closet. To increase storage they added two wardrobes on either side of the bed with beautiful floor to ceiling curtains which made the room both more functional and luxurious! Then they added a large mirror to the other side of the room which made the whole space appear larger. What simple fixes for such a big impact! I can’t hardly believe it! I’ve included the before and after photos of their amazing transformation below but please check out their blog, for more pictures, at: http://www.younghouselove.com/photo-gallery-2/our-first-house/
