Virtual Home Staging Explained

By Morgan Saylor

What if you could stage your home without actually lifting a finger? It’s possible. Virtual home staging is the digital way of presenting your home online, using photo-editing software to add the design touches your home is currently.

Empty rooms are no problem with virtual staging. Popping stylish furniture in empty rooms, hanging curtains and art work, becomes as easy as the click of the button. The benefit? Daniel Goldstein via realtor.com writes the obvious benefit comes with making the vacant and drab homes look warmer, friendlier, and much easier to sell!

The price tag is comparable to actual staging at $100 per room, writes Goldstein, which he says is less than traditional staging. Virtual staging also means a variety of looks – literally, not just setting one stage, but staging several looks for one room. For instance, converting a child’s room, littered with toys and decorated with clowns can be virtually staged seamlessly to a contemporary, into a contemporary adult’s bedroom.

Some have raised the question as to whether or not it is wrong to doctor photos. There are ethical boundaries as it pertains to false advertising. Virtual stagers are allowed to swap out furniture, remove clutter from exterior, but not something permanent, like a water tower or electrical pylon, writes Goldstein.
