What You Need to Know About Painting Fabric

By Amy Patterson

This antique vintage headboard is only slightly difficult to work with because of its limey-hue…but not to fear – Sara D (blogger) is here to save the day! She used paint – yes, paint, on fabric, to transform this headboard into a piece that fits in any room – and the best part is, you can too!

Here’s what you’ll need:

Chalk paint

Clear wax

Brushes (straight and round)

Fabric piece that needs transformation

Here’s what to do:

The main reason I love chalk paint so much is because there’s no priming – just painting! So literally, all you need to do is paint your fabric in a circular motion with a brush. Let the first coat dry completely, then do another coat. You may need to do a third coat in some places to cover some spots.

Note: Depending on how absorbent your fabric is, you may need to dilute your chalk paint in a 1 paint:1 water ratio and do more coats.
