Home Heating Hacks

By Amy Patterson

It’s that fun time of year when it’s not quite cool enough {most of the time} to justify turning on your heat, but it’s just chilly enough to want to – especially at night and early in the morning. So if you’re a heating hold-out, check out these simple, money saving tips that’ll help you warm up without the cost of upping your heating bill.

  • Add some area rugs – Area rugs are a super easy way to add warmth to your home. Add some to your hardwood or tile floors as desired.
  • Use a space heater – When it’s chilly in your bedroom but not really cold enough that you want to heat your entire home, you might want to employ a space heater. These little guys are super effective and give you a lot more heat for the cost compared to heating your entire house.
  • Tighten up your insulation around doors and windows – You don’t want your heat escaping, so take the first step and check all of the insulation around your doors and windows. If you find any gaps, seal them with caulk.
  • Use thick drapes – Using drapes is a great way to both help keep the cold air out and absorb the heat from the sun. You can even find special energy saving drapes at most stores.
