Baking soda is one of those cure all substances, which, much like vinegar, can be used for everything from personal care products, to cleaning, to baking! I love baking soda because it provides me with a natural substitute for many chemically laden products. Maybe you use baking soda to bake, but have you used it in these three alternative ways?

  1. Cleaning – Cleaning anything really. Just sprinkle a small amount of baking soda on the surface of your stove top, sink or counter top and you’ve got a potent and natural cleansing agent that’s ready to go to work.
  2. Carpets – Did you know that you can use baking soda to help clean your carpets? Yep, you can use just baking soda alone, or add a few drops of scented essential oils to your baking soda, sprinkle it all over your carpet, and let it sit for 20 minutes before vacuuming it up.
  3. Scrubbing – Most shower cleansers are a lot more beneficial when they have those little foaming bubbles that help clean the surface for you. Well, you can DIY with baking soda! Sprinkle some baking soda on the surface of your bathtub or shower and then spray with a vinegar and water solution (about half and half). The mixture will fizzle up and help scrub all of your residue away.
