All About Terrariums

By Morgan Saylor

No longer limited to fourth grade science fairs, the terrarium transcends the box it once shared with baking soda volcanoes, and into the realm of home décor. Terrariums bring the outdoors into your home and create an earthy feature akin to a Zen garden. There’s something about them that is simply fun and elegant.

Terrariums are cool on many levels. You can buy a terrarium kit or go completely DIY. If you do go DIY, you’ll probably find that much of what you need to make a terrarium can be found in and around your house.

You don’t have to be a green thumb, because they’re made with low-maintenance mosses, cacti, and other easy-to-please plants.

Because it’s your terrarium, it can be as whimsical or wonder-less as you wish. Add tiny fairies for a fairy garden-themed terrarium or keep it plain and simple with a few pebbles and a sprig of mint.

You could consider a terrarium your own indoor garden. Photo via worldmarket.com.
