Make A New House Feel Like Home

Make a New House Feel Like Home

New house feel like home blog.jpgWhen you move into a new home you can sometimes feel like you are floating in a sea of bubble wrap, cardboard and pizza boxes. So just regaining your sanity and a semblance of normalcy can seem daunting. All you want to do is feel like this new house you purchased is yours—you want it to smell like you and feel like you but instead, it can feel foreign. That is why when I came across an article that highlights some easy tasks that can be done right after you move in to make your house feel like a home, I was all over it!

Feeling secure will do wonders for making you feel comfortable in your home. Switching out locks and deadbolts will give you the confidence that you, your family and your valuables are secure. And if you are really wanting to feel good and secure, you can install a new security system. The next suggestion from Katie is another way to make you and your family safe but in a different way; by removing the toilet seats, you can be confident that every seat in the house is a safe option for everyone! The removal of the toilet seat will allow you to truly deep clean the toilet—under the bolts and hinges where all the yucks have been hiding for who knows how long. Where you go from there is totally up to you. You can replace the toilet seat with a new one or simply just reinstall the old one.

This next task only takes about 3 minutes. Change out your air filter. This will improve the quality of the air you are breathing, improve the performance of your furnace, and reduce allergens. This is an inexpensive improvement that will also save you money. A great way to make the house feel like it is truly yours is by painting the door. Every time you come home you will be greeted by your newly made over door and it will inspire you to continue creating a space that you love. Be sure that you prep the door prior to painting and you pick an exterior grade paint for the door! Lastly, and my personal favorite, choose your signature scent. Every home has a smell and even if it’s not a bad one, if it isn’t yours it can feel like you are intruding in someone else’s space. Start by deep cleaning, particularly the carpets and any fabric window treatments left behind. Then fill your home with a scent that your love!
