New Year Design Forecast

By Morgan Saylor

With 2016 basically spent, all eyes are on 2017 as we wait with bated breath for the new year to reveal the air of style that will top the trend chart of home décor.

Last year, we saw lots of mixed, high-dollar materials (granite, copper) and high-contrasting color (black and white, powder blue and white). Minimalistic wall-art conquered, pops of funky, fresh, and fun feature walls (wallpapered, shiplap, you name it) were welcome. Greige was the rage.

But here’s to 2017, according to Trulia:

Cerused Wood - Or limed-wax finish, gives wood color and accentuates the wood grain, a hit with cabinet and wood floors in shades of black, dark gray and greige.

Marble – Granite is out, and marble is in, in white or black, kitchens and bathrooms, marble everything.

Patterns – Wallcoverings, that is. Dramatic patterns in dark colors and extravagant designs are coming back around – picture paisley, and huge floral.

Matte Appliances – Move over, stainless steel. Matte-finish is the new choice finish for appliances in the new year.
