Stove Top Potpourri

Stove_Top_Potpourri_Blog_V1-01Do you have scents that you pair with feelings? You know, like how cozy would smell? It is amazing how smells can influence our moods, help us recall a memory or even make us more productive. But with concerns about chemicals in air fresheners or just simply not wanting to spend big bucks for candles, what are we to do? Well I’ll tell you; we can make stove top potpourri! Not only is it created with all-natural ingredients (no yucky chemicals) but because the base is water, you are even adding moisture into the air—like a great smelling humidifier!

There are a variety of combinations, honestly the list is probably endless. Just start with a pot of water then add your ingredients, bring the water to a boil, reduce heat to low and allow it to simmer! This is key; do not forget to replenish the water as it evaporates. I recommend playing around with what you have in your pantry to see what scent combinations you like the best, but I’ve included a few of my favorites to get you started.

This may need to go without saying but never leave your house without turning off the stove; even for stove top potpourri.

Orange Spice

  • 1 Orange sliced (or even just some orange rinds)
  • 2 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 4-6 Cloves

Rustic Pine

  • 4-5 Sprigs of Pine (you could get more use out of your live wreath)
  • 3 Cinnamon Sticks

Lemon Fresh

  • 1 Lemon Sliced
  • 2 Sprigs of Rosemary
  • 2 tsp. Vanilla Extract

Refreshing Citrus

  • 2 Limes Sliced
  • Fresh Mint
  • Fresh Thyme
  • Sliced Ginger

The best part? If you continue to add water, you should be able to use the same pot for a couple of days! I love putting together a stove top potpourri after I’ve done a deep clean at my house; I sit back and enjoy the fruits of my labor—that also smell so good.
