Why cover letters aren't just for job seekers

By Amy Patterson

The cover letter – a necessary evil that often comes with any job application process. Most people don’t look forward to writing them, but though you may already have your dream job, you may not want to put down your cover writing pen just yet.Cover_letter_blog_post-01

Did you know that this March, 43% of winning home offers came with cover letters? That’s right, almost half according to a Redfin report. The report also notes that this percentage is up 35% since last year, and the report claims that a cover letter is the number one way for prospective buyers to stand out to clients. If this is correct, can you imagine what a cover letter and a pre-approval from Stockton could do for your chances of getting the winning bid on your dream home?

But how do you write a cover letter to buy someone’s home? Here are some pointers to keep in mind if you want to try this on your next bid:

  •  Allow the seller to get to know you and your family
  •  Look for commonalities with the seller while your touring the home
  •  Point out things that you love about the home
  •  Paint a picture for the seller of you in the home
  •  Don't try to negotiate the price in the cover letter
  •  Thank the seller for allowing you the chance to own their home
