Window Bars 101

Lacking confidence in the safety of your neighborhoods’ security? Structural security bars are an option for those who are feeling nervous and don’t mind bars on their windows.

Which windows?
If your concern is security, you’ll want bars on the windows that easily reachable and hidden from view. DIY kits are available and cost around $100 to $200, and take a couple of hours to install. Larger windows can cost from $300 to $500.

If you’re less of a DIY-er, a professional installation will add a cost of $150 per window to that cost, plus materials. According to Larry Erickson’s article via houselogic, some local codes require a quick-release feature from the interior of homes that allow a fast exist in the event of a fire or emergency.
